ABOUT THE GOLF COURSE & CLUB
The It'll Do Golf Course & Club™ is a private, members-only, invitation-only golf course designed and built by Justin Downey, Marlan Downey and Drew Coleman on the Downey Ranch, near Farmersville, TX.
The course is a three-hole (though there's plans to expand it to 9) golf course featuring a Par 4 and two challenging Par 3 holes. The course meanders its way through 30-acres of native wild flowers and golden prairie grass. The fairways are over-seeded with Princess 77 Hybrid Bermuda and the tee-boxes each offer a cooler of cheap beer.
The course also sports 10-foot elevation changes and regulation flags and holes on all the 'greens' (using that word loosely).
The It'll Do Golf Club's continuing mission is to "achieve victory through mediocrity". For those as terrible at playing golf as we, approach every fairway attempt and missed putt as "It'll Do." It makes a difference.
Thinking about taking our motto with you? Check out our It'll Do! Gear store and show the world your golf game is good—enough. All (or most) of the proceeds from our store go to support the It'll Do Golf Course. It's a worthy cause!
THE GOLF MISSION
Seems everybody's got a mission statement these days. Must be a marketing thing, so we put one together for all five website visitors who will ever read this far down.
The It'll Do Golf Club's continuing mission is to "achieve victory through mediocrity." For those as terrible at playing golf as we, approach every fairway attempt and missed putt as "It'll Do" and discover how long your golf clubs will last when you don't smash them on every hole.
Wanna take that little pearl of wisdom with you? Check out our It'll Do! Gear store and show the world your golf game is good—enough. Proceeds (most of them, anyway) will go to help support the It'll Do Golf Course.
A LITTLE HISTORY
The idea to build a golf course at the D3 Ranch was the result of a Downey family dinner and too much wine.
Justin Downey was remarking that it's hard to find golf courses in Texas with much in the way of elevation changes.
To which his father, Marlan Downey, a geologist by training, responded: "Well there's quite a bit of elevation changes up at the Ranch near the cabins." Justin's brothers then chimed in: "The water table is pretty shallow too, so irrigation would be cheap if we dig a well."
The idea went around-and-around the dinner table, but little actually got done. That is, until Justin mentioned the idea to his good friend, Drew Coleman. A freelance landscaper and handyman in his spare time, Drew grabbed the mower and a roll of duct tape and the rest is history (all one-year of it).
JOINING THE GOLF CLUB
Don't be fooled by this wonderful website. We're not a for-profit golf course. JDM built the site for us because of a lost poker bet.
The course (if we can call it that) is located on private land and is maintained exclusively at the cost of its players (primarily: Justin Downey, Drew Coleman, Marlan Downey, Clint Mercer, Anthony Piccolo and Eric Etheridge).
Proceeds from the sale of our Branded collateral is purely for entertainment value. Let's face it, it's a pretty catchy name and snazzy gear, but grass and water is expensive.
So there is really no way to "join the It'll Do Golf Club." We're just broke and selling our name for beer money.
